- The first play, A Stab in the Art is about 25 minutes long. It is being directed by Christine Linning from Brighton who has over 30 years of experience with Sandgate Theatre. Playwright, Paul Hannah, who lives at Closeburn wrote A Stab in the Art in 2017 and the play won Best Original Script for him in 2017 at the prestigious Norfolk Island Theatre Festival when it was performed by Front Row Theatre. The play is set in an Art Gallery which is showing five very colourful paintings which are extremely important in the overall development of the plot. The paintings are on loan from the playwright who identified the artists responsible for the five paintings as Toni Risson, Annamaria Mays Vermeer, Jan Davis, Suzi O’Carroll, and Mardi Kearney.

It is called Yesterday and it concerns a couple in their sixties, who meet up at a ball. Our production of Yesterday includes snippets of music from 1923 including the Charleston and music with Louis Armstrong playing in the first band he was in. Yesterday was written by Colin Campbell Clements whose wife, years later, was involved in the writing of The Wizard of Oz. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
- The fifth play, a longer One Act Play, goes for about 35 minutes, and it was first performed in 1847. It is a farce and it has continued to be performed over the years since 1847. It is called Box and Cox and it was written by John Maddison Morton. According to Wiktionary, the term “Box and Cox“ in the English language comes from the title of this play, and it refers to “two people who occupy the same post or location in an alternating arrangement”. Have you ever heard the expression “Box and Cox”?The success of Box and Cox inspired a one-act comic opera called Cox and Box in 1866 with music composed by Arthur Sullivan, of Gilbert and Sullivan fame. Box and Cox is being directed by Chris Packman who, with 25 plus years of experience with Sandgate Theatre, has wanted to direct this play for quite some time.
